Watches & Warnings

Excessive Heat Warning, Heat Advisory
Issued: 12:30 PM CDT Jul. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning in effect until 8 PM CDT Saturday...
... Heat advisory in effect from 8 PM Saturday to 7 PM CDT
Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued an excessive
heat warning, which is in effect until 8 PM CDT Saturday. A heat
advisory has also been issued. This heat advisory is in effect
from 8 PM Saturday to 7 PM CDT Sunday. The area covered by this
warning includes southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and
extreme western Kentucky from Paducah west.

* Timing... today through Sunday evening.

* Heat index values... peak heat indices will range from 110 to 115
degrees today and Saturday. On Sunday, anticipated thunderstorm
activity should limit heat indices to between 100 and 110. In
addition, overnight lows will be only in the mid 70s.

* Temperature... actual high temperatures will be in the mid 90s
today and Saturday, and the lower 90s Sunday.

* Impacts... the combination of hot temperatures and high
humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat-related
illness. The very Young, the elderly, those without air
conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor
activities will be the most susceptible. Also, car interiors
will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

an excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
fluids... stay in an air-conditioned room... stay out of the sun...
and check up on relatives and neighbors.
