Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 12:37 PM PDT Mar. 28, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch in effect from late tonight through Friday
morning...

The National Weather Service in Spokane has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of Idaho and Washington, including
the following counties, in Idaho, Benewah, Bonner, boundary,
Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce, and Shoshone. In
Washington, Asotin, Pend Oreille, Spokane, and Stevens.

* From late tonight through Friday morning

* moderate to heavy rain is forecast to start tonight and linger
through Wednesday. Additional rainfall amounts with the incoming
system will range between 0.50 and 1.20 inches with locally
higher amounts in the Blue Mountains and Camas Prairie.
Temperatures will be mild contributing to snow melt on mid
slopes and northern valleys. The rain combined with snow melt
will create the potential for several inches of runoff.

* Water tables are running high from the last few weeks of wet
weather and snow melt. Localized field flooding is already
occurring and is likely to worsen. Small streams and creeks will
see increased flows. This includes the little Spokane river
which is forecast to rise close to minor flood stage Thursday
afternoon. Saturated grounds will also lead to potential
mudslides in steep terrain.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
