Watches & Warnings

Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 10:28 AM CST Jan. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 3 PM this
afternoon to 6 PM CST Wednesday...

* timing... snow is still on track to spread across the area this
afternoon and continue into Wednesday. Blowing and drifting snow
is also anticipated Wednesday as the wind increases.

* Storm total snow accumulations... 4 to 8 inches in the area along
Highway 3... with 8 to 10 inches further north near Mason City
and toward the Minnesota border... especially if thundersnow
develops enhancing the snowfall rates this evening. The snow may
be wet and heavy initially into tonight.

* Winds/visibility... northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts as
high as 40 mph during the day Wednesday. Substantial visibility
restrictions due to snowfall tonight and then blowing and
drifting snow Wednesday are likely.

* Impacts... roads are anticipated to become snow covered and very
slick. In addition, the snow and blowing snow will create
visibility restrictions leading to extremely hazardous
travel... particularly impacting the rush hour commute this
evening as well as Wednesday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected. Significant amounts of snow are forecast
that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If
you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
