Issued: 4:16 AM HST Mar. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* flood advisory for...
the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* until 715 am HST

* at 409 am HST, radar indicated heavy rain near Naalehu, or near
kawa flats while rain gage at Pahala collected three tenth of an
inch in the past fifteen minutes. The rain is moving west at 5
mph. Rain was falling at a rate of slightly over an inch per hour.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
kawa flats, Pahala, Naalehu, Punaluu beach and Hawaii Volcanoes
National Park.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to
flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don't drown.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 715 am HST if heavy rain
persists.
