Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 4:34 AM EST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk in effect from 10 am EST this morning
through Tuesday evening...

The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay Ruskin has issued a
high rip current risk, which is in effect from 10 am EST this
morning through Tuesday evening.

* Rip current timing... today through Tuesday evening.

* Rip current impacts... strong and dangerous rip currents are
forecast which will be hazardous for those in the surf zone.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins...
jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards... beach patrol...
flags and signs.

If you become caught in a rip current... Yell for help. Remain
calm... do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for
help. If you have to swim out of a rip current... swim parallel to
shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to
swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

Small Craft Advisory, Gale Watch
Issued: 2:34 PM EST Jan. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Small Craft Advisory now in effect from Sunday morning to
Monday evening...
... Gale watch in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday
evening...

The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay Ruskin has issued a
gale watch, which is in effect from Sunday afternoon through
Monday evening.

* Winds... 30 to 35 knots Sunday and Monday with gusts to 40 knots.

* Waves/seas... 6 to 9 feet Sunday building to 10 to 15 feet
Monday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots
are expected to produce hazardous wave conditions to small craft.
Inexperienced mariners... especially those operating smaller
vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions.

A gale watch is issued when the risk of gale force winds of 34 to
47 knots has significantly increased... but the specific timing
and/or location is still uncertain. It is intended to provide
additional lead time for mariners who may wish to consider
altering their plans.
