... High Wind Warning in effect from 9 am this morning to 4 PM MST
this afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a High Wind
Warning, which is in effect from 9 am this morning to 4 PM MST
this afternoon.

* Location... the southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Huerfano and
western Las Animas counties, including Walsenburg, Trinidad and
Raton Pass.

* Cause and timing... a strong jet stream over the area will cause
strong westerly winds to develop this morning which will
continue into the late afternoon hours.

* Wind... westerly 30 to 45 mph with gusts around 60 mph at the
lower elevations, and gusts of 75 mph over the mountain areas.

* Impact... drivers of high-profile vehicles should exercise
extreme caution or postpone travel, especially on north to south
oriented roads, including I-25. Damage to power lines and
buildings will be possible. Power interruptions and power
outages may occur.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
