The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
southwestern Montezuma County in southwestern Colorado...

* until 915 PM MDT

* at 621 PM MDT... Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that heavy rain was falling over the area. The heavy rain has
caused flooding over portions of County roads f and g near Highway
160 south of Cortez. The automated rain gauge at Cortez Municipal
Airport indicated 1.67 inches of rain has already fallen.

* Flooding will remain over mainly rural areas of southwestern
Montezuma County.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around... don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Colorado and Utah... including the following
areas... in Colorado... Animas river basin... central Gunnison
and Uncompahgre River basin... Four Corners/upper Dolores
River... northwest San Juan Mountains... Paradox Valley/lower
Dolores River... San Juan River basin... southwest San Juan
Mountains and Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide. In Utah...
arches/Grand Flat... canyonlands/Natural Bridges... La Sal and
Abajo Mountains and southeast Utah.

* Until 10 PM MDT this evening

* showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop into the
evening. There is the potential that some storms will produce
excessively heavy rain in areas where soils are already
saturated.

* Flash flooding may occur in slot canyons... small streams and
normally dry washes. Heavy rainfall over steep terrain may also
trigger mud and rock slides. Flooding in urban areas with poor
drainage is also possible.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
