The National Weather Service in Pueblo has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
snowmelt in...
central Saguache County in central Colorado...

* until 230 PM MDT Thursday.

* At 142 PM MDT, reporting gauges indicate high water and minor
flooding continues to affect areas along Saguache creek in
Saguache County.

Flood waters are moving down Saguache creek near the town of
Saguache. The creek is expected to run high for at least the next
few days.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

Mineral County in south central Colorado...

* until 1030 am MDT Thursday.

* At 1029 am MDT, emergency management reported flooding in the
headwaters of and along the Rio Grande in Mineral and western Rio
Grande counties.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
del norte, South Fork, Creede, Wagon Wheel Gap and Wolf Creek Pass.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of central Colorado and south central Colorado,
including the following areas, in central Colorado, La Garita
Mountains. In south central Colorado, central San Luis valley,
eastern San Juan Mountains, southern San Luis valley, and
upper Rio Grande Valley.

* Through Thursday afternoon.

* Rapid snowmelt due to warm temperatures is causing high and
fast flows in area creeks, streams and rivers. Snowmelt over
the next few days will add more water, and bring the potential
for flooding.

* Minor to moderate flooding will be possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
