The National Weather Service in San Diego has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
Riverside County in Southern California...
central San Diego County in southwestern California...

* until 1215 am PST

* at 843 PM PST, National Weather Service radars indicated
widespread rain continuing across San Diego County and parts of
Riverside County. Two to 3.5 inches of rain has occurred and an
additional 0.5 to 1.5 inches is possible. Rainfall rates will be
0.20 to 0.50 inches per hour through 11 PM. Many creeks and
streams are running bankfull or inundating low lying water
crossings. Additional rainfall and continued runoff will create
dangerous small river and creek flooding including on the San
Diego River. Escondido creek, the tijuana river and their
tributaries will have dangerous high water flows. High flows will
near flood stage on the Santa Margarita river.

* Flooding is especially dangerous at night. The water is deeper
   and moving faster than it appears. When flooded turn around don't
   drown.

* Some locations that will likely experience flooding include...
San Diego, Chula Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Temecula, El Cajon,
Vista, Encinitas, National City, La Mesa, Poway, North Park, Point
Loma, Hillcrest, midway district.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

which will likely cause flooding along the Whitewater river in the
Coachella Valley.

* Some locations that will likely experience flooding include...
Palm Springs... Cathedral City... Palm Desert... Rancho Mirage...
and Indio.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...
excessive rainfall over the Whitewater Basin is expected to result in
significant flows through the Coachella storm water channel. This
could inundate low-water crossings and possibly create dangerous
