Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch, High Surf Advisory
Issued: 11:49 AM PST Jan. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 PM PST this
evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Ventura and Los Angeles counties.

* Until 6 PM PST this evening

* periods of heavy rain with peak rainfall rates of one half
inch to one inch per hour are possible. This could generate
flash flooding and or mud and debris flows... especially in and
around recent burn areas.

* Landslides and Rockslides are very common during intense rain
events and could lead to Road closures.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Flash flooding and debris flows will be a particular threat in
and below the recently burned areas.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

People in or below the recently burned areas are urged to take
the steps necessary to protect their property. Remain alert and
follow directions of emergency preparedness officials.

512 am PST Mon Jan 23 2017

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 6 PM PST Tuesday...

* surf... 7 to 12 feet... highest on west-facing beaches. The surf
is diminishing slowly and will remain above advisory levels
through at least Tuesday. The advisory may need to be extended
into later in the week.

* Impacts... large waves and strong rip currents will increase the
risk of ocean drowning for swimmers and surfers. Breaking waves
can cause injury... wash people off beaches or rocks... and
capsize small boats nearshore. Moderate beach erosion is
expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current
remain calm. Don't fight the current. Swim in a direction
following the shoreline. When out of the current... swim back to
shore. If tired... float or tread water until out of the rip
current. If unable to escape... face the shore and call or wave
for help.
