Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Northern Indiana
550 AM EST Thu Nov 23 2017

.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 333 AM EST Thu Nov 23 2017

CLouds will slowly move east this morning, leaving behind partly
cloudy skies this afternoon with highs topping out in the upper
30s to lower 40s. Clear skies will prevail tonight into Friday.
Increasing southwesterly winds will usher in high temperatures
into the 50s.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)
Issued at 333 AM Thu Nov 23 2017

Shortwave working across the region with mid level clouds moving
slowly east. Regional and local radar showing returns, but 00Z
soundings from upstream sites show plenty of dry air in place in
the lower levels, preventing any precipitation from reaching the
ground. While a stray flurry can't be ruled out, nothing worthy of
placing in forecast. Skies will slowly clear from west to east
this afternoon, with areas seeing sunshine reaching into the lower
40s versus upper 30s where clouds hold on. Clear skies tonight
will allow temps to drop below freezing.

&&

.LONG TERM...(Friday through Wednesday)
Issued at 333 AM EST Thu Nov 23 2017

Series of progressively stronger troughs will move through the
region every couple of days, with above normal temperatures being
seen ahead of each one. Highs should reach into the 50s Friday and
again Tuesday into Wednesday with more seasonable temperatures
behind each cold front. The first front Friday night into early
Saturday will be lacking deep moisture, limiting precip to
possible some lighter showers across the north. Models continue to
vary on handling of deeper trough with northern and southern
stream energy never fully phasing. Precipitation chances, if any,
looks to reside just outside the long term period.

&&

.AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Friday Morning)
Issued at 549 AM EST Thu Nov 23 2017

A weak mid level impulse embedded in west-northwest flow will
provide only mid level clouds this morning into the early
afternoon with clearing thereafter. VFR/dry otherwise with some
uptick expected in southwesterly winds this afternoon.
