Thanks, all!

Sunlakedude, that line is from Gordon Lightfoot's song, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald."

"Superior they say never gives up it's dead when the gales of November come early." What song is that from?

Congratulations on VIP weather shot!
I heard about the Great Lakes in the
news today - how the lakes are frozen.

Thanks for the info, Katy! I'm not sure if the 3-inch tide shows how big Lake Superior is compared to other lakes, or if it shows how small it is compared to an ocean. I guess both. LOL!

Thanks also for the tip on the link. I tried to modify the comment, but it is pretty insistent on having that space in there.

I did not see that show, but it sounds great. I'll have to check into that.

Thanks also for the comment on the photo!

BTW, how do you know so much about Lake Superior? Did you live near it at some time?

I've heard that Superior has the equivalent to a 3-inch tide. :)

Looking at the great expanse, it is much like an ocean. The influence it has on the weather is also like an ocean.

(btw, copy/paste of that link, has made a space between supe rior in the text. Link does not work until you deleter that space)

Have you seen the wonderful Discovery channel (or was it National Geographic channel) show about if the water was removed from Lake Superior? Most excellent program.

Oh, Tim, did I say this is a GORGEOUS photo?

Thanks all! infocus2, I've actually never seen an ocean to compare to. Yet, comparing to an ocean is really the only way to describe the size of Lake Superior to someone who has never seen it. Here is a website that presents some interesting facts: http://law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/supe rior/superiorfacts.html

Wow! I can't imagine what it must be like there! I used to live close to Lake Ontario -- but only read about Lake Superior!! It must be very similar to the ocean!!

Beautiful shot! Congrats on the AC on your other photo in this series!

About yooper90

yooper90

I live in the town of Escanaba, which is located in beautiful Yooperland, better known as the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Summers here are short and cool, and the winters are not extremely cold but they sure are snowy in some areas! I love all aspects of life in the northwoods. I am not an avid photographer. In fact, I do all of my shooting with a slightly modified point and shoot Canon camera. Still, when the opportunity for a good shot presents itself, I try my best to take advantage. My favorite natural occurrence to photograph is the aurora.
