Caption: DC-10 makes a Phoscheck drop on the East Flank of the Station Fire just after 5PM. We have been ordered to evacuate but I plan on sticking around to protect the neighborhood from fire AND looters.

BTW ...this airplane, a DC-10 was first built in the 1970s ... it could be more than thirty years old ... thats old for a plane flown in regular service.

Those forestry pilots have guts!!!

This is A HELLUVA PHOTO.

This photo is spectatular ... while the flames aren't that much so, the entire scene wrapped around the airplane is ... it has just come diving "down" the hill like landing at the San Diego Airport into unknown thermals, there are the high tension wires, there is the smoke and of course the trailing orange "stuff" (I'm from IL, they don't use it here.) Oh yeah ... retardent.
