A friend noted to me that she sees an bearded man's nose poking through the cloud deck, looking down: I now see it too! Face of "God" looking down?? either that or Santa!

This is just a high cirrus or altostratus deck lit from underneath at very near the instant of sunrise (essentially horizontally lit). It does look like mammatus.
