It would be nice not have to travel aborad to see them (but i'm glad i did) & see them where i live. But at 51 degrees north it would have to be a very large CME! Great capture.

So gorgeous. When I had a farm in southern Wisconsin in the 90s, I got to see a lot of really spectacular displays of aurora borealis. Since I was a freelancer, I was able to stay up all night and watch them. They seemed to march down from the north most of the time, ribbons and ribbons of them passing over us and sometimes well to the south before disappearing.
Now I live in Missouri, too close to St. Louis and the light pollution kills my sky watching these days.
Thanks for sharing. It brought back great memories. :)

Lovely winter series! I've been going out to check, but haven't seen anything in the way of the northern lights tonight, although I did see a nice shooting star and heard a pack of coyotes yip-yipping as they ran what they hoped would be their midnight snack. Thank you for sharing this series, and your other wonderful photos! Julie in west-central Ohio

Beautiful Tim. That's something I would love to see. But we are too too too far south. :-)

And too far north to see A Australis.

About yooper90

I live in the town of Escanaba, which is located in beautiful Yooperland, better known as the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Summers here are short and cool, and the winters are not extremely cold but they sure are snowy in some areas! I love all aspects of life in the northwoods. I am not an avid photographer. In fact, I do all of my shooting with a slightly modified point and shoot Canon camera. Still, when the opportunity for a good shot presents itself, I try my best to take advantage. My favorite natural occurrence to photograph is the aurora.
