malmok, Aruba

Caption: from Aruba! a 'postcard' shot of the DiviDivi tree on one of our favorite beaches..the 'divi-divi' acts like a sort of compass, as they obviously lean to the west thanks to the constant east-to-west blowing of the trade winds. The tree is covered with twisted pods after the fragrant yellow flowers fall..these pods are rich in tannins that are used in the leather industry. The extremely hard wood produces a red dye while the pods yield a black dye.

Thanks for reminding me of that awesome tree. I have a pic of myself standing in front of it. Nice to see it's still there.

About suzi46

suzi46

Living in the mountains of Western Maine on a 15 acre 'gentleman's farm', in a hand hewn log home, has been a wonderful experience these past 6 1/2 years. The photo ops are virtually unlimited what with the surrounding working farms, dozens of lakes, ponds, and brooks, and thousands of acres of forest. Not to mention our own pond and brooks as well as extensive flower gardens, fruit bushes, vines, and trees. The views of Mt Washington and the Presidentials of NH only add to the drama! Not a bad place to be retired..and I am so glad I can share all of this with the wonderful folks on this great site..it has been a wonderful journey and learning experience thus far..and it's only getting better!
