The moon has just risen over a ridge in the mountains that has some fog/clouds on it.

That was as in focus as the lens could get, and I tried both sides of that focus point only to have it further degrade. Most of the fuzziness is owing to the fact that there's clouds/fog clinging to the ridge top and partially covering the moon's face. Some may also be due to bringing a lens that was above freezing temperatures out into 4F.

Edit: The other thing I realized is the long exposure problem. This was a 6 second shot at 208mm, f/6.3, ISO 400. I could have cranked up the ISO, but it was as wide open as possible at that focal length. A tracking mount wouldn't help this shot because it would blur the landscape. I think an ISO 800 shot at 3 seconds would have been crisper. I played around and have a few other variants of this one which aren't quite as good. I definitely wanted more definition in the earthshine part of the moon.

well I think a 10+ is in order on this wonderful capture..and enduring the cold, dark conditions!! you can see the silhouette of the mountains and the wisps of clouds..a dreamy shot!! AC congrats :)
