To Rotty3...shame that people find only something to criticize when they don't even know the circumstances. It is a photograph of one second in time...a brief second captured. Have you ever just looked at your dog and he cowered his head or let his ears drop...did that mean that you beat him??? This horse stood here for a few minutes in dry weather that happened to have a bit of snow and ice on the ground. He dropped his head for a brief minute making him look dejected. I don't even know what to say to people like you any more.

wished they cared enough to throw a blanket of sorts over while the poor creature has to stand w/out shelter out in the weather.

Very beautiful Sharon, love this! Congrats on your AC! I haven't been around many Amish or Mennonites, but do remember a group of Mennonites coming to our town after our big flood of 1982 to help rebuild our community. They are very hard workers.

Surely speaks to that saying, "to thine own self be true". A person has got to have a lot of confidence in their choices to continue to maintain these ways of life in the face of all the time, labor and money savings devices available today. Kudos on the storytelling image, Sharon, and congratulations on the Blue Border recognition.

Thanks Gil and Kat. No offense taken about the blanket. I should have stated that the couple was only in the store a few minutes, therefore, one couple blanketed their horse and the other did not.

UPDATE: Congratulations on your new Blue, Sharon.
My comment about the blanket was not intended to
suggest mistreatment. It just looked like a day
that it would be nicer to be wearing a 'jacket'
than not. Absolutely no offense intended.

I admire the Amish and Mennonite for their resilience and commitment. They take great care of their farms, animals, and are dedicated to each other. They are peaceful people and do not harm others. I wish society would not shun them and maybe learn a few things from them.

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I haven't had much time to be on WU lately to respond. Thanks to the Approvers for the blue frame!
I had a feeling someone would misinterpret this photo. The Mennonites (similar beliefs as the Amish) take excellent care of their animals. I am an animal lover and former horse owner. I would recognize an unhealthy horse if I saw it and would not photograph them. I assure you, this horse is in superb "condition" and not underweight! With the hills they travel here, they would be hurting them if they let them get too much weight. As we all know, sometimes photos are deceiving of reality.

Nice shot, Sharon, can't tell anything for sure about the horse but it wouldn't be like the Amish to neglect their animals. Congratulations on your AC!

Must have been your lucky day, Sharon! At least
the other horse had a nice blanket to help keep
him warm. That is one sturdy looking carriage,
kind of like a Brinks carriage! Neat series!
