Gene~~laughing! I'd love to see you do it! When that little one was hanging around work one of the guys picked it up and held it. It only had a few small quills so he only had a couple stuck in his jacket. Here's a slide show I made of the little porcupine:

Duane~~right! :-)

Dave~~yup, they spend nearly all their life up in trees, eating bark and twigs. The little one that hung around at work used to come down and come hustling when I'd call cuz I gave it apples. It loved those! See above video.

Thanks so much, Peg and Mindi! We see them quite often around here, being there are so many trees everywhere. Even had that baby one come toddling into the yard at work a few years ago (I posted pics of it in here somewhere back in this gallery) and it hung around for a few months, even coming when I'd call. It loved apples and was always in a hurry to get it's apple treats. I posted a little series of photos of it on YouTube at this link:

I was walking around the dam area in the woods, trying to get a better view of the lake behind the dam and happened to see this one making it's way up this Poplar tree. There was a ton of tree branches in the way so it was really hard to find a spot to get a halfway decent photo of it. It climbed way up to where the trunk and branches were so slender the whole treetop was swaying around under it's weight. I just hope it didn't break off and send that poor Porky plunging to the ground, a good 60 feet or so below!
Thanks for looking and leaving a note, Eileen! :-)

About minnesotamom

minnesotamom

Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in northern Minnesota, USA, where the winter temps have dipped down to -60º below zero F. The summers used to be mild but in recent years have been up in the 90ºs---too hot for me. I love being able to travel the world from my office chair, through all your great photos! I've learned tons about photography and editing photos thanks to all the great people on here and their willingness to share tips. Thank you to all you Wunderfriends who take time to look and leave notes---I deeply appreciate it. :-)free hit countersCreate your own visitor map!
