Ponchatoula, LA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: These crawfish homes can get up to a foot tall. Makes it hard to mow the lawn. Since they have gills, they need moisture to breath. When these low areas dry up, crawfish burrow down to find wet areas to stay while they wait on the next rain

So is this the work of just one, or is this a 'colony'?

Thanks for a peek at something I've never seen! We have little crawdads in many streams here, but they don't build mud castles. Cool!

During the last rain he washed up here from some place and when his puddle dried up he went underground. We are suppose to get a hard rain tonight so he will come out and navagate through the next mud puddle until he reaches the ditches. People come down the road from time to time with rakes and pull the crawfish out to fish with them. Bass love crawfish.
