Vacherie, LA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: In 1804, the Frenchman Guillaume Duparc, a naval veteran from the American Revolution petitioned Thomas Jefferson, to receive land and the house was built in 1804. He died 4 years later which started the leadership of 4 generations of women ending with Laura Locoul Gore born 1861. She ran the Laura plantation until 1891. The Br'er Rabbit tales also have ties to this plantation. (photo taken under the raised home)

Thanks Julia. Wilma & I thought it very interesting too! The daughter of the woman depicted here was named Elizabeth and she in 1805, had her husband sign a pre-nup before they got married!!!!
