Sorry no Linda, this is well over the summit of the Pass, after cresting. Maybe 20 miles or so.

Yes you are so right about those who came before us, they certainly had grit! Isn't it amazing, the hardships they endured.

What astounds me even more is the stalwart, steadfastness of the indigenous peoples, who lived here for 5,000 years, and almost entirely go unrecognized as their cultures disappear.

Is that what remains of the Sheep Camp where the Sourdoughs / Cheechako's camped before braving the Chilkat Pass? or possibly another settlement entirely?...sorry, but I am a history buff of the late 1800's and early 20th century...I didnt think anything remained of Sheep Camp, but maybe they put up a cairn in remembrance of that astounding journey made by so many of the Yukon's pioneers. (and maybe a trading post...?..)anyway, thank you for showing what it looks like today. Its a beautiful image and I live in awe of people like Martha Purdy who made it over the pass and up to Dawson in spite of being pregnant at the time. Our forefathers and mothers had grit!

Quoting katy99780:
Thank you Eileen, Sharon and Rick.

It's uncanny how bare it is.

I think all the snow went East.

Thank you Eileen, Sharon and Rick.

Rick, downtown Haines is almost bare, the 5-6 feet of snow they had has melted. Only a few snow banks, and ice ridges.

The road over the Pass barely had berms on the roadside, in some places not even that. It's uncanny how bare it is.

I've lived in Alaska since 1969. I love this wild land. The extremes of the far north shape and affect every living thing. Extremes of weather, elevation, daylight hours, isolation, flora and fauna, nothing in Nature is insignificant.I have a Davis Vantage Pro weather station, uploading to Wunderground, (Turks on the Tundra) the National Weather Service, the Citizen Weather Observation Program and MADIS (Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System).
