Beautiful dawn shot Katy! Just checked your "current conditions" and see it's going to be -60 degrees tonight! Just curious, how do most people heat their homes? It must be very expensive, but of course you have the pipe line for oil.

Firewood, firewood, more firewood! With a diesel furnace for backup if we must be away from the fire overnight.

Mary, that's an interesting viewpoint re: we have the pipeline for oil. That which is refined in Alaska almost entirely goes for jet fuel, the rest goes down the pipeline to be shipped out of state...

It's a conundrum all of us are scratching our heads about, and the politicians talk circles around it.

Congrats on your series AC Katy! I had no idea all that oil in Alaska went elsewhere! I figured you all had access to cheap (or cheaper) home heating oil. Well, at least wood is a renewable resource. Thanks for the info!

Nope Mary, we pay higher prices for our fuel than most in the Lower 48. Doesn't make sense, does it.

katy99780 I've lived in Alaska since 1969. I really love this wild land. The extremes of the far north shape and affect every living thing. Extremes of weather, elevation, daylight hours, isolation, flora and fauna, nothing in Nature is insignificant.I have a Davis Vantage Pro weather station, uploading to Wunderground, (Turks on the Tundra) the National Weather Service, the Citizen Weather Observation Program and MADIS (Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System).
