Not sure how it happened, but there was a thin layer of ice - a few inches above the water, in certain areas today. Made for some interesting designs, this one reminded me of a Snow Flake...

Marvelous find and capture !
Typically, a low area fills with water from a recent rain or melting snow. Temps fall below freezing overnight, and a thin layer of ice forms on the surface. Then the water level drops as some of the water slowly drains away, leaving the ice layer suspended in mid-air because it is supported where it is attached to twigs, tree trunks, etc.
Lovely series, BTW. And I've been enjoying your other winter series very much! Especially the ones of hoarfrost. You have a good eye, and your close-up camera work is excellent. Thanks for sharing the beauty of winter with us city folk, who don't get to see these natural wonders very often!
