Rhenish Tower

Saturday August 3, 2013

Lynmouth, Devon,

Caption: Originally built in 1860 to store sea water for indoor baths, the tower was washed away in 1952 during the great flood of Lynmouth (the wall of flood water was up to 30ft high) after 9 inch of rain fell on the surrounding hills in one day! The one that stands here now was rebuilt in 1954 using old postcards & photos as a guide to what it looked like.

About WurzelDave

WurzelDave

I'm a 'wurzel' who lives in South West England (UK) in the county of Somerset (next to Devon), famous for scrumpy cider, Cheddar cheese, The Wurzels (well worth going to see) & birth county of 2009 F1 world champion Jenson Button.Like the rest of the West Country, Somerset has many areas, places & landscapes worth a visit such as Glastonbury Tor & Abbey ruins, Quantock hills, West Somerset Railway, Cheddar Gorge, & Exmoor, to name but a very few.Favourite holiday destiations are Iceland (see alot of photos) & the Icehotel in Jukkasjarvi Sweden (also see photos). Still a lover of the flim camera, my first camera was an Halina 110 camera which you could buy flip flashes for! I have a Canon 3000V SLR film camera, also have some TLR cameras from the 1950's plus Canon powershot A3300 & SX150 digital cameras which are useful for close up macro shots & also makes film 'last' longer!
