Gorgeous, Dorothy! Love cypress in the fall. Congrats on a great shot. We just saw some cypress knees for sale at the Swamp Park last night. Sure do like them in their natural setting better! :)

Such a lovely surprise to wake up and find this pretty blue frame!! Thank You to the Approvers who volunteer 24/7 to approve our photos for the WunderPhotos® community on Wunderground!

Thank You to All for your kind comments! I grew up in Florida and cypress trees and their *knees* are quite common, so it's nice to have a chance to introduce these charming forest beings!

Wow! Very beautiful. And I finally found my answer. I was gonna ask what those things on the ground are. I knew if I kept looking at your series, somewhere someone would have asked the question. And here it is. I also was wondering what it was.
Very beautiful photo Dorothy. Congratulations on this wonderful AC!

Quoting gardner48197:
Wow, love the Fall Colors, and composition!! What are those things on the ground? Looks almost like mushrooms!?!
Thank You All for the lovely comments!! They are are called cypress knees and they are actually the roots of the cypress coming up from underground and breaking the surface to form these beautiful smooth shapes all around the tree. The roots only form "knees" when the tree is growing in or near water, like on a riverbank, swamp or bog.

Looks like those cypress knees would make it kinda hard to mow the grass! How do people manage it, or does the shade kill out the grass under the trees?

Update: Congrats on the blue, Dorothy!

Never want the colors to end, wether a rainbow or a box of crayons, i like the seasons and all the joy it brings, thinking that the spirit flows the same way, each moment a gift to be enjoyed. Like
