Caption: Ravenous feeding frenzy! This hawk was oblivious to me taking shots. He had obviously worked up an appetite.

It was amazing. I caught him just as he tore into his prey. The uncropped picture shows an explosion of feathers! (I had to be discrete if how graphic I could be in posting - you could imagine; I had over 450 shots of this event.)

Must really have been hungry! I have had them just leave their meal on the pole and wait until I leave before coming back. Magnificent shot. Love the white feathers on his legs.

Thanks everyone... I saw this hawk while driving the kids home. Since it was just a few minutes away, I returned in time to catch it dining. The Redtail allowed me to get close while he finished the meal!

About Cptkirk

Cptkirk

My camera packing sons and I are Kansas transplants from the Rockies!(My special son Michael - handle "utjazzfan", and Shane (Mr. Lightning)- handle "idzrvit" carry our cameras everywhere we go and have been photographing the outdoors and wildlife for over 20 years. I have drawers full of photos, but have "come of age" with digital. I now shoot anything I want without fear of a wasted shot. The result is some terrific photos I may not have taken with my 35mm! Sharing our photos with our friends at "wunderground" is a real plus!
