Uploaded by: ChrisAnthemum — Saturday January 5, 2013 — Pilot Mountain, NC (Current Weather Conditions)

Saturday afternoon I went up to Pilot Mountain for the first time since the fire in October. It didn't look as bad as I thought; most large trees survived all right and even the shrubbery looked like it might return. For example, the view from this overlook appeared pretty normal.

Thank you, Mary! I just uploaded another in the series and think that will probably be enough, though I do have more.

Thanks for commenting, Kathy! I know this looks like a sheer drop, but it isn't really. Steep, yes! The pathways around Pilot Mountain are just full of views like this. I'm sorry only that I wasn't able to get out to the small dome, which has the best views of the big dome. That area is still closed for cleanup and repair after the fire.
