I drove up to the Mabry Mill this afternoon to see some leaf color. The color was disappointing; many leaves had not yet turned, or had simply dried up and fallen off without developing color. However, the scenery was terrific all the way, the light mellow, and the temperatures pleasant. The Mabry Mill, one of the most photographed sites in the world, was much the same as when I last saw it several years ago.

Thank you, Larry and Cynthia! I was glad to find that, since it was the middle of the week, the place wasn't swarming with other people as it would be on a weekend, so it wasn't hard to get shots without people wandering around.

Beautiful shot, Kathy! I love old mills, too.
There was one in Dorset, Vermont, where my folks
used to live. I like the open doors on the
window and the lovely rock work down to the
water! Very nice! Congratulations on your AC
for this beauty!

Thank you, Al and Ingrid! Yes, there were plenty of photo ops even though the leaf color wasn't as I'd hoped, Al. And Ingrid, the lighting was a bit difficult, but I was pleased at how the photos turned out.

I am fascinated by old watermills. They show us that energy was not always available from a socket.

Thank you, Bernard and Julia, for your comments! It was fun to take another look at an older, if not simpler, way of life. Here is a short video of the mill, the flumes supplying the water to turn the wheel, the blacksmith working in his shop, and the docent spinning wool into yarn -- the same one I saw! -- this film could have been made while I was there, because I saw most of these things.
