Yes, thanks. He's really slowing down now so the walks are getting shorter, but he keeps on keeping on.

He is a good dog. He just turned 13 yrs.old today which would be 91 in dog yrs., so he is the same age as my mom. He is starting to slow down and a little hard of hearing, but doing great for his age!

Captain Nemo, in my book!  I know he'd tell you that he appreciates the fact that you're there for his senior years versus any lousy reciprocal agreement.... Love the heck out of him! :)   Lucky dog!

You should add Wrangell to your itinerary too. We have the mouth of the Stikine R. here, Anan Bay bear viewing, Nemo Pt. campsites with spectacular view, and an awesome museum.

Thank you for the information about Haines, strange how just in a relatively short distance , the weather conditions in Alaska can change. Even more so in the Interior. I guess everyone thinks because its Alaska, it snows 10 ft deep each winter everywhere. Which many places in AK see little snow during the winter.

I wish now I had visited SE AK when I was there, wish I had visited Gustavus, and Sitka too. Maybe a return trip.

Recently adopted another Siberian, named him Chance. Nemo, was my first Siberian, who like I mentioned , resembled your Nemo.

I've only been to Haines on the ferry and not spent any time there. I have worked with folks who live there and I know they get a lot more snow than we do in the winter and it lasts longer into the spring. I would guess that they have less rain than us though. They are north of us. Ketchikan has more rain than us and they are farther south. Someday when my husband is retired from working on the ferries we plan on making a trip and stopping by each port and spending a little time. He has been all over AK when he used to work as an engineer on tugboats so he knows all of the waters and ports very well.

Believe it or not, it was 96f unofficially here in Virginia today, highly unusual, coupled with drought conditions. Bring on cooler weather , I love the wintertime.

I have been to Interior Alaska and the Kenai Peninsula, but didn't visit SE Alaska. Wish I had, Wrangell would be a place I think I would like. Does Haines receive as much rain as Wrangell?

Perhaps the sunny days are more special after a couple of weeks of clouds and rain.

Treasure your time with Nemo. Don't ever skip a walk with him.

What an interesting coincidence! He has a few little problems beginning but has perked up lately. He looks forward to the cool weather. We finally got rain today after an "Indian Summer" which is very unusual for here in rain country.

Hi Budsgirl
I share an affinity with you, as I also had a husky named Nemo resembling your Nemo! He lived to be 14, hope your Nemo is with you for a long time. I can tell he is your closest buddy!

From what I have seen through pictures ,Wrangell is a beautiful place in Alaska. We appreciate your photos immensely.

I can't imagine when Nemo is gone. He is my faithful walking companion. My best friend, who walked with me, moved away and most people walk only on dry days. We don't have a lot of those here in rain country. He is 12-1/2 yrs. old now and has a few aches and pains. Just went to the vet and he feels so much better with a shave and meds to help out. He and my mother will both be 91 (dog yrs. for him) in May 2011!

About Budsgirl

Budsgirl

I live in SE Alaska and love it here on an island. It is so peaceful and beautiful. It rains a lot, but that means it is always green and the nice days make it worth it. There is always something worth taking a picture of even in the worst weather. I am so thankful to live here and feel blessed!
