The ISLANDS here — which resemble the very tops of elephant's backs, and sit well in a cobalt sea — almost seem to float on water, or upon abstract space. (The latter, though it is not wholly unknown, is the rarest of illusions, especially when it is rock solid as opposed to a mere fata morgana.)

And the SKY above, with its vague prosaic clouds, is precisely what was necessary to bring out the oddities that immediately catch our eyes below, from which — by a playful conspiracy anchored on affection — fantasy then evolves, in the scenic calm.

The actual colors here, of which this image is composed, work EXTREMELY well. As in the BERYL FOREST that starts the picture from beneath.
