Sheridan, NY (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: They're everywhere! Researchers have indicated that they suspect they are migrating from Northern Quebec. They had a very successful breeding year, but now there isn't enough food for the youngsters and they are being pushed south. Most of the Snowy Owls we are seeing are only four or five months old.

You have hit the jackpot, Gale! Such wonderful images of the snowy owls hanging out in your region. We have had reports of one near here, at the beach, but I have yet to see it. Kudos, and AC congratulations to you.

Thank you all again for your wonderful comments! Also, Prosperina, there is no need for people to put out food for them. They are predators and are finding plenty of rodents, rabbits, pigeons, mourning doves, seagulls and squirrels to eat. The biggest problem we are seeing is owls that have ingested rodents that ate rat poison and then the owls are poisoned too and most of them don't survive.

Love the owl!
Does anyone know why I cannot change my "background" to a WU picture? Is it the WU site or my computer?
