the carpet squares sound like a good idea. I've never heard of that, but it makes good sense. Let me know how that works

I was afraid to use pine needles because I thought when the needles broke down it would put too much acid in the soil but just read lately that as it breaks down it actually get more alkaline. I was using cardboard between the rows. Read an article about " lasagna gardening". You layer cardboard & leaves. Now I am trying carpet strips (thanks to Katy99780) between the rows. Turn the carpet with the fuzz down. We'll see how that works. The chickens were scratching up the leaves so the carpet will stay in place better.

I know what you mean. I mulch with pinestraw and let the californiia poppies take over the space after I cut the spears.

About motorcyclenana

My name is Barb. I work full time as a cake decorator. I married my highschool sweetheart 40 years ago(you may know him as backwardguy). I enjoy gardening, golfing and riding my motorcycle. I got the name Motorcycle Nana because I'm the only grandmother that rides a motorcle to work. Photgraphy is a fun way to capture memories of what we see and a great way to share them with others. I have enjoyed this site and have gotten some great help in my efforts to be an amature photographer.
