Duluth, MN (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: The freezing wind howling across Lake Superior at nearly gale force brought sand up over the dune from the beach behind this bus and piled it all around it. It was a fantastic day down by the big lake!

Oh wow! Thanks, everyone, for your fun and interesting comments! :) I appreciate your taking time to look and to leave a note! :)
John, I don't know how long that bus has been there but I've seen it parked there for at least a few years. Hey, I *should* have left my car down there to scoured good and then have my boss paint it!

Any idea how long that bus has been laying (parked?) there.
Now that your car has been sand blasted are you going to paint it?:)
Thanks for sharing the world's longest fresh water sandbar.

Wow, I never thought blowing sand would be a problem in MN...more like West Texas. I learn something new every day on WU. Thanks and good luck.

YIKES! Snow melts, but sand remains until someone can manage the heave ho! Great way to show the impact of wind.

The next time I'm grumbling when I got to clean up a snow drift, I can now tell myself it could always be worse!

StephH~~thanks so much for looking and taking time to leave a note! :)
Jarrus~~yes it is! :) Only the "city" in this part is a narrow sand bar only a block wide that extends across from Minnesota to Wisconsin. The beach is on both sides, right behind the houses. Thanks for looking and taking time to write!
Gil~~thank you, as always, my loyal buddy!
ChackM~~thanks! Love your animated kitty face!
trneafie~~You're very right---it's a blessing it wasn't as devastating as all the south and eastern states had to go through. It did rip off tree limbs and such but wasn't deadly, thank goodness. Although gales like this have sunk many ships on Lake Superior over the years.
Dorothy~~thanks much for writing! Yup, there's going to be some real work getting all that sand back over the dune and on the beach again. I'm just glad it's not my yard! :)

The gales of November have come really early this year.

It's going to be a lot of work clearing all that sand but at least there were no killer tornado's like other parts of the country experienced.

About minnesotamom

minnesotamom

Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in northern Minnesota, USA, where the winter temps have dipped down to -60º below zero F. The summers used to be mild but in recent years have been up in the 90ºs---too hot for me. I love being able to travel the world from my office chair, through all your great photos! I've learned tons about photography and editing photos thanks to all the great people on here and their willingness to share tips. Thank you to all you Wunderfriends who take time to look and leave notes---I deeply appreciate it. :-)free hit countersCreate your own visitor map!
