Did you notice on the approach to the other end of the bridge they had built a temporary levee on the south side of the highway to keep water from possibly rising up onto US-61?
Sometime between 1945 and 1948 I actually saw water on that stretch of highway from a very high level in the spillway.

Nice photo! When I was down there I noticed the water getting pretty high up on the Bonnet Carre east levee off of airline by what use to be the boat ramp. Justin got a shot of it.

Thanks for the comments. I live about 200 yards from the levee on which I was standing to shoot this photo. If the levee fails I'll be under about 20 feet of water.
