Thank you all so much for commenting!! I am still smiling this morning over seeing this beautiful new bird yesterday :) To think of all the hours, days, and years I have spent watching out there this proves to me once again there are still more new birds for me to discover in my own backyard.

In Colorado, we have The Northern Oriole,
which look very similar, and they love those
oranges, as well. Doesn't take them long to
find them at all. This is a beautiful shot!
It looks posed!:-) Congratulations!

Thank you! It was such a surprise, as it always is. to discover a new bird in my back yard. This is one that winters here but I have never seen one until today. I saw flash of color back in the woods that I could not identify, so I looked through my lens and ID'd it. Within about a half hour of putting the orange out he appeared.

These guys are so colorful and a great capture! As the birds fly I should be about 20 miles from attracting them so I think I'll put an orange out like you've done and see what happens.

About icmoore

icmoore

My name is Cathy and I first joined WU in 2005 for the great weather info and Dr. Master's blog and then later discovered the wonderful photography community here. I so enjoy seeing everyone's pictures and sharing some of mine. My husband of 41 years and I sold the house we had lived in for 25 years and raised our 2 sons in then downsized to a cottage on a barrier island on the west coast of FL. It's about a block away from the Gulf and we are living our dream now and praying that the big wind don't blow :)
