Got a question for you, was it rotating? If not, it would most likely be a scud cloud, which is a cloud that looks like a funnel cloud or a tornado, but it isn't. I know this because I am a Skywarn Spotter. More info at www.skywarn.org I've seen funnel clouds up close and personal. Trust me, it's fun, but scary. :-)
