Of veterans who have and are currently serving. Under partly cloudy, then sunny, then grey clouds, Alachua County honored Veterans at the Veterans Memorial at Kanapaha Park. ~ Veterans Day Celebration. This year we will recognize all U.S. military veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom-the current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Through the generosity of citizens throughout North Central Florida, six Alachua County residents who have been killed in those engagements will be recognized with an expansion of the Memorial. The addition will feature both operations and will duplicate the design and scale of the original Memorial.
thank you for this gatorgal..my son is career military..having served for 18 yrs so far he is currently deployed back to Iraq again..having just returned fron Afghanistan last year..the sacrifices he (and his wife and children) has made over the years are many..he has been in harm's way on numerous occasions..he is also stationed at Ft Hood.. we all know what happened there this past week..so they also had to endure loss on American soil..I pray for him and ALL the men and women who serve so that we can all live the lives we live everyday..thank you again for posting this today..regards..susan
