Yep, James, she is full of eggs. She may or may not have been mated yet, but soon after she does, she will lay the first of what might be 2-3 egg cases, each of which might hold around 200 eggs. Watch for them and protect them over the winter, and you can anticipate a spring hatching such as I have been privileged to photograph more than once. If you're REALLY lucky, you might even see the mantis laying the eggs, something I have seen only a couple of times.

Wow What a Capture!!! I would love to see the birth of the eggs, and the babies. I have a lot of these around the house, but not sure if they are males or females. They are very intersting creatures, and this picture is very special to capture her pregnant :0) Karen

About gardner48197
gardner48197 4/2013: Greetings from Michigan, where we get a wide variety of weather changes throughout the four seasons! I originally found this site for the weather, and the photos kept drawing my interest! Decided to get my first digital camera in 2010, and have since upgraded to a Nikon L120/P520, which has helped photography become my favorite hobby! I have always loved the outdoors, and now I have a perfect excuse to get out and explore nature! What a great community here, so many excellent photographers and friends, so little time! I would like to thank everyone who contributes, for all of the great inspiration and feedback! Sometime down the road I would still like to get a DSLR camera, but for now I just I hope to send a small view of life from the Great Lakes State. Home of the Michigan Wolverines! Go Blue! -James
