Something that Northern Star Gazers can't see from home - the Southern Cross. If you extend a line to the right from the long axis - about 1.5 times as long as the axis - you are looking at the South Celestial pole. The two bright stars at the bottom are The Pointers - for obvious reasons. The lower one, Alpha Centauri - or Rigel Kent, is our closest star after our Sun. It is about 4.4 light years away. It is also actually two stars - a binary system.
