Oh boy what a beautiful sight. A CME from the sun has hit us and sparked this wonder of nature.

Since my own research means I deal with many acronyms each day, I had to stop and look up "CME" -- coronal mass ejection -- before continuing :-) Your introduction is most interesting, though I confess that I'm still hoping you'll explain more about how your chosen field of work is interwoven with photography. Either way, your photo is magnificent, and I'll be looking at more of your photos! 10+ saved to Favorites! Julie in Ohio/USA

Spectacular!

Not a sight we see in New Jersey, although someone close-by, on the other side of the Hudson River, in Yonkers, NY, has been taking some marvelous solar-flare photos.

Thank you.

Too much light pollution even here in the southern US of A. Great picture. Wish I was in New Zealand.

About astrophotographer
astrophotographer I am very keen on astrophotography, atmospherics and nature photography. The passion for photography has been with me for 60 odd years and is still as strong as ever.My first camera was a 127 format given to me when I was 8yrs old, my father showing us how to develop film, in the bathtub, needless to say it became stained much to my mothers annoyance.I guess my profession, Radiography, was a natural way to combine taking pictures with a hobby, most radiographers in my training years had cameras so we all took photos and compared them, always striving to outdo each other.I have always had an interest in Infra-Red photography and we used to play around with IR film in the B&W days, of course we have advanced so much in the digital world of IR I had my camera converted for IR only...it was a bonus as the exposures are as if it was a white light camera. Fast shutter speeds and the resulting images are sometime bad but mostly intriguing. A surprise celebration awaited me at work the other day, to mark my 50 years in Radiography, a long time in one profession, but an enjoyable time and would I choose the same path in life, yes I would. I have met many wonderful people even though their time on this planet was limited, they have been a person I will remember fondly. At last I have acquired a Canon 5D Mkii. It has been a dream of mine for a while to have a full frame digital camera. The wide angle lenses are great and cover the 180 degrees I have longed for when photographing the aurora. The definition if the photos is quite amazing and I am very pleased with the results. Keep an eye out for some more photos.
