Crunched Yaris

Hubertus, WI (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: This afternoon while on my way to shoot some special trees a large white-tailed buck zipped from a cornfield and ran into my car. It was so sudden and all I recall seeing was that a deer was on my windshield and his antlers caught part of the glass as he slid over the top of the car. Luckily only my car was damaged and now I know how easy it is to hit a deer.

Quoting minou:
all for a tree photograph

I'm not quite sure how to take that comment, but let me explain. I was on Holy Hill Rd., the road where I often spend time photographing that beautiful basilica and a road that has tamarack trees, which are rather scarce around here. It wasn't like I was going out of my way just for one shot, it was me on a typical trip heading out for pix.
Unfortunately there are some Ag crops along this road, too, and the deer came quickly from one and hit me...so...yes, my car was crunched because I was out to take pix.
That's life in Wisconsin.

OK Eileen..now I see why you're at home..that could've been ALOT worse had you been hurt..better to get the car fixed than the alternative! :)

I know when we have been in the Dells and area we saw many deer while driving from place to place. I am told there are less here this year but there is a lot of corn standing and I think some at least are keeping out of sight in the corn fields. Saw a few the other night but they managed to stay clear of the road as we passed.

Thanks for commenting!
I have to pay only $500 for over $4K worth of damages to my car, thanks to my insurance coverage.
The insurance lady asked me if I knew the 'owner' of the deer, because she has to ask that question...which made us both chuckle. Wouldn't it be neat to hold someone accountable for all the loose wild deer in our state?!

Glad you are OK, from what people have written before it could have been far worse for you. Does insurance cover animal strikes out there?

The deer stumbled off into the woods, but I imagine he may not survive his injuries, which actually makes me sad, believe it or not.

Close call!!!...does Wisconsin let you have the carcass...I know Maryland didn't when I lived there, but I knew a lot of barns that had dressed carcasses, and freezers full...!
