Negative Contrail 1

Uploaded by: WeatheringHeights

Monday January 29, 2007

Weatherford, TX (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Even though I was sick as a dog (and home from work), I went out in the freezing cold this morning and took pictures, when I saw this cloud out the window. I just couldn't miss this one. ;) The second photo is looking west, this one was looking east. I sent it to the Chief Meteorologist at KXAS-TV - NBC5 in Dallas-Fort Worth. Here's what he said.... "It's a kind of 'negative' contrail. Apparently the jet exhaust caused the cirrus cloud layer to condense and fall out as snow, leaving a gap in the clouds. I don't think I've ever seen one like it.

Also called "distrails". I love yours, looks like a canal in the clouds.

About WeatheringHeights

WeatheringHeights

Since July of 2002, I have been taking a photo each day to put in a Photo Journal. I didn't think there would be much of interest EVERY day ... but God proves me WRONG! Each day brings something new: either subtle or dramatic, but always something. Since starting my Photo Journal, I have looked at the world differently, finding wonder and awe in even the little things. So start your own Photo Journal, and see what each day brings ... because when you look for something interesting or wonderous each day, it will be there waiting for you. Create your own visitor map!
