Not BLUEBIRDS!

Danville, VA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: I think a robber baron has hit my bluebird box. Something has built a nest in my bluebird box within the last few days. I checked the box just recently and it was empty. Today, I checked it and the nest cup is full of either moss or juniper greens. That is not the way the bluebirds nest was built last year. It was dried twigs and stems lightly woven. That is why I am thinking is not a bluebird. Not sure what to do - whether to empty the cup but usually a bird just works that much harder and rebuilds the nest the next day. Maybe it is a chickadee. I really have not idea. It could also be a tufted titmouse.

My first thought was "There's that missing pizza I forgot to put in the freezer last month". Seriously though, I was fascinated by the picture and will be looking forward to your future families.

Thanks! You know I will. Of course,
I should not count my chicks before
they hatch, but it is super exciting!

Okay - I sent a note to the local bluebird lady and the photo above and she sent me a note back saying: You have a Carolina Chickadee!!! When they finish nesting the bluebirds will have it next... Carolina Chickadee only nest once. So that is my SUPER exciting news for the day! I am going to be a proud granny to Carolina Chickadees! YEAH! And then my bluebirds will take over!
