Lady Pileated Woodpecker

Danville, VA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: I was so excited to HEAR the loud loud repetitive call of the Pileated Woodpecker. I started looking and spotted it flying and even got a shot of it in flight. It flew up to the tallest tree right over top of user endofstreet's house. I could not believe my ears and eyes. Second time I have spotted them since the babies flew. I heard them in another area earlier today but did not spot them. This is the female.

So good to see one of them again. This really brightened my day as I have missed them since we observed them daily as they raised the family during the summer. Thanks for sharing.
