My school bus driving son turned the corner to pick up a student only to find the road blocked by a large snow drift on Monday 12-10-2012.

Unfortunately even snow tires are not enough if you don't have a vehicle with lots of ground clearance. In the case of this picture, the snow drift came up to the bumper of the school bus.

Yep, the forecast was for 1 to 4 inches of snow. We ended up with an average of 10 to 11 inches with some area out West getting up to 17 inches of snow. Thought we were going to have a warm brown Christmas again this year, but the weather maker had a big surprise for us.

What a scene to literally stop someone in their tracks! I'm SO GLAD your school bus driving son saw this in his headlights -- great photo! This photo may be worth 10,000 words!!!! - Julie in Ohio, who once saw something like this traveling north on Interstate 65 in northern Indiana during a blizzard, when trees between the north and southbound lanes created a "snow fence effect" that very effectively drifted the northbound left land totally closed with very little advance notice! Also, once upon a time, driving for Roadway Express in the late 1970s, I was trying to get to the Muskegon, Michigan, terminal, and saw a similar sight in the middle of the night in downtown Muskegon!

I'm certainly glad I live on the Texas Gulf Coast. I'm not at all fond of ice and snow; the cold makes my bones ache.

I am sure my son wished that he would have gotten a snow day, but around these parts, they don't give snow days to school bus transportation personal unless the schools shuts down for more then a day. Even if we get a blizzard, if there are children that need to be transported home from the school, then my son and others like him have to go out and pick them up and take them home. It's not a fun job some times.

Great weather shot ! Remember Minnesota winters from my time when I lived there !
The kids are lucky to have such excellent drivers as your son to transport them safely to their respective destinations in these awesome weather conditions !

Thank you Trailhiker44. I will pass the compliment on to my son. Yes, he does take his responsibility very seriously and has become a very good and safe driver.
