Looking north, down the Atigun Valley far north of the Arctic Circle. The sun neither sets nor rises this time of year, this far north, but travels low on the horizon, providing great photo opportunities. This shot was taken at 1:00 AM from the north side of Atigun Pass.

A resident of Alaska since 1957, now living on the north edge of the huge Wrangell-St Elias National Park & Preserve, I've traveled all over the state and found the Copper River Basin to be the place I prefer to call home. Magnificent scenery in every direction, four full seasons (although 3 of them can be pretty short), and wonderful people. Still, it is enjoyable traveling to other parts of North America, preferably on a motorcycle, seeing the scenery that the rest of the continent has to offer. We are truly blessed to live in such a nation, with such an abundance of natural riches.Create your own visitor map! |

@Globe199: Correct. About 3/4 of a mile from the bottom of the climb on the north side of Atigun Pass. Here's another perspective on that scene -
