Flop

Westfield, NC (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: The muhly grass that was so bright a week or two ago has flopped over in the rain. That's a Japanese maple next to it that has such coral-red stems in winter. The two make a nice pair.

Thank you all for taking a look, Mary, colamom, Shadow, Linda, Wanda, and Elaine! I'm surprised this photo got as much attention as it did! Mary, I too have noticed some problem getting comments to stick, so I don't think it's just you. And Linda, Muhly grass will grow through much of the West where it isn't too cold in winter. Check out High Country Gardens' catalog to see whether it is recommended for your area.

Wow, Kathy! I would love to visit your yard in person and learn from you about all these lovely plant varieties- though they probably would not do well in our poor alkaline soil! :) Lovely color and composition! 10!

Congratulations on your AC!!

Thank you, Helen! That maple is Sango Kaku, and is best known for its coral-red stems in winter. Pairs nicely not only with the Muhly grass but also evergreens. That is Blue Rug juniper I have under it.

Wow, what a colorful yard you have. Love the red stems of that Japanese Maple. It almost looks like red coral. A beautiful corner in the drizzle and fog. Congratulations, Kathy.

Thank you, Kat, Cynthia, and Genie, for adding your comments! I think once the heads are dry, they will stand up again. But for a fact, they are about finished for this year and will most likely be cut down the next time I am working in that area. The maple bush, however, will stay this color all winter long, a cheery sight on cold winter days.

Thank you to the approvers for this new AC!

Will it stand back up as it dries, or is it
in perma-flop mode? It sure is pretty! So is
the Japanese maple! Cool shot, Kathy!
