Hi PhilBanningCa, my camera is a dslr. ISO was around 300 and I used my 11-22mm wide angle lens. Photo was 25 seconds. I use custom white balance and noise reduction was on. My f/stop was 2.8, glad you like it, thanks.

I was learning how to use my new Olympus E-500 on this night. The traffic was messing up most of my photos due to their headlights, so I decided to include them. I jumped to the other side of the road in the waist deep snow and quickly set up for the next car to come along. The aurora band widened in the sky as the next car passed and WOW!!

What a fabulous shot. Must be cold out there to take such a shot. How long an exposure? What sort of settings on a camera DSLR?

I live in Oregon and in the fall of 2000 there was an awesome solar flare that produced Aurora in my area, they could be seen as far south as Sacramento, CA. The first time I saw one it scared me because I didn't know what was happening, I was working security on a site and actually called police dispatch, I feel like an idiot now.

This is an amazing shot, someday I will make it to Alaska to see their splendor.

One year we got a very brief and *tiny* view of the aurora borealis as it strangely headed south into our part of the world. That's the only time I've ever seen it and I probably won't get to see it in all its splendor unless I decide to head much farther north some day :)

This is a fantastic image, beautifully taken and I, too, thank you for sharing it. I love how you got the headlights on the road at the bottom; it lends perspective and depth to this composition.
