Sugar Pine Point, Lake Tahoe, CA

Caption: Tahoe didn't even freeze during the ice age. Based on the remains of a nearby campsite with broken china flatware and square hewn nails, I believe this old wooden post pile dates to the Comstock era of the 1870's, when 75% of the Tahoe Basin forest were clearcut for the mines, floated in huge rafts across the lake to the sawmill on the east shore, then flumed down to the neighboring Washoe Valley.
